These are the E-910 Hinge Reinforcement Plates on the left, E-1409 Servo Support C-channels and the Trim Cover Plate prior to any prep work.
Here's an untouched rivet hole as it's interesting to compare before and after...
Here I've deburred the right hole, but not yet the left...
All holes deburred...
Deburred, sanded and now etching away outside.
I actually etched all the other larger Elevator parts prior to the seven pieces above. The next step is to setup my spray painting booth (rear deck) to prime all the etched parts with the Stewart Systems EkoPrime...
I almost neglected to take note of which parts (left or right) I'd placed where on the blankets. I told myself I'd separate left and right into groups on the blankets as it's important to put all the parts back together the way they were initially assembled...........that didn't happen so I took some photos instead.
All sprayed and back inside again. Ahhh, looks so good having a whole pile of parts ready to dimple and rivet together.
This E-1022 Shear Clip was the first piece I dimpled as per page 09-17.
Above is untouched. Below is post dimpling. You can see how dimpling put a slight bend in the clip. This means I've lent a little too heavy on the lever - easy to straighten....this time.
Step 6 on p 09-13 states:
The reason for this is that the countersinking actually drills a little into the hinge(E-1403) attached underneath the Trim Tab Spar (E-1405). These holes will eventually take a 426AD3 rivet. Although this hole could easily take an AD4 rivet, with the hinge attached, brings it back to the AD3 size.
...as can be seen here...
Just showing part of the E-907 Elevator Rear Spar with a dimple one side and countersunk the other. Fairly important to get the one right.
Here's a short video of the action today. A good mate, Rocket, stopped past to make an appearance and give me a hand dimpling - thanks mate!
