Horizontal Stabiliser Skin Dimpling

Not many photos of this as it's fairly monotonous, plus I didn't take many - must have got caught up in the moment(s).

Not really sure what the hammer's doing there.

HS Rear Spar Counter Sinking

To ensure the rear spar counter-sinking was square to the flange face, it took a little fiddling. I ended up clamping some wood to the drill press to make sure the drill positions were consistent.

Horizontal Stab Skins

I finally get to pull the HS skins out from underneath...

De-skinning the rivet strips...

Horizontal Stabiliser Front Spar

I think seeing the completed front & rear horizontal stabilisers has given me the most satisfaction so far. Not just because of the amount of sanding and prep required, but also because the finished product looks so good and strong. Maybe that's just me....

I probably should've taken more photos of the process, but I guess I got myself into a rhythm and neglected that part. Here is the front spar which is identified by the two groups of nine rivets on the lower edge, with the doubler riveted...

(had my workshop safety boots on)

...and some shots of those awesome AD4 rivets squished by the pneumatic squeezer - have I mentioned how good that thing is??

Hmmm......this doesn't look very good. Better do that one again.

And here are the next ribs I get to assemble. If only they came like that. Soooooo many sore fingers sanding and preparing all these ribs...

Empennage - More Horizontal Stabiliser

I know, these look the same as the others. Yep, it's also a good record of the quality of the rivets - can't praise the pneumatic squeezer enough. It's awesome.

This is No.6 HS-912 hinge

Once the squeezer's set, squeeze away - they all end up the same!

The rear of inside left elevator hinges...

No.7 HS-912 (left to right)

No.8 HS-912

The rear of the inboard right elevator (HS-912) hinges

No.9 HS-912

No.10 HS-912

Rear of outside right elevators hinges...

I had to purchase a new torque wrench to install the Inboard Hinge Bracket Assembly  brackets
(HS-0911; VA146).
The nuts are required to be torqued to 28in-pnds.
I know, the following photo was taken at only 26in-pnds...

As you can see below, some scotch tape and red marker highlight what I shouldn't be riveting....not just yet anyway.

Empennage - Rudder (Take 2)

After already doing this once before, it's nice to see it back together again and ready to create the rudder. Attached here are photos of the R-00914A-G stiffeners reattached to the right rudder skin (R-00901-R-1).
