Kit Balance

Yes, the break has been long. Selling one property and moving into another has been slower than initially thought. Not that living with my girlfriend has been negative - that's not true. It's really been an awesome period. It's just that there's no room for a workshop and I've had to keep the kit and all my tools in storage until I can expand into a new space.

Meanwhile, the remaining three parts to the Vans RV-14 kit arrived 3 weeks ago.

Yep - that's my new 3-bladed Hartzell as well. I can't wait to get it out of the packaging and take a look.

The engine looks to be targeted for completion by about April 2024 and then however long it takes to get it to Australia after that.

3 Year Intermission

The Covid-19 epidemic has been disastrous on lives and living for far too long. That and other influences has caused me to cease this build for a period of time and put everything into storage.

Although I'd planned on a hiatus from building, I had no idea it would end up at 3yrs..........so far. It will most likely be around 3.5yrs before I get everything back in place to continue.

Rather than cease all entries on the blog until I find somewhere to continue, I thought I'd make a few entries on related items as there are modifications to explore and investigate and planning to be done for future stages. Some that come to mind include:

  1. Engine type and specs - the YIO-390 EXP119 is now released and being installed as the engine of choice for the -14
  2. Propellor - overall propellor stats still lean toward aluminium, but composite props are progressing each year.
  3. P-Mags or EFI or both - this is another tough choice where everybody has a different opinion.
  4. Battery or batteries
  5. VPX or circuit breakers
and the big one
      6. Avionics - Dynon, Advanced, Avidyne  or Garmin
