This part of Section 9 is assembling all the elevator components to confirm alignment and trim a couple of parts to fit as shown below.
Left elevator trailing edge...
Right elevator trailing edge...
E-1423-L is literally the left trailing edge. Only the elevators have this wedge shaped piece of aluminium separating the trailing edges which obviously strengthens that edge.
The ailerons, flaps and rudder all have a sharp pointed cross-section trailing edge compared to the one shown here.
The lines shown here indicate how much the wedge is to be tapered off at the outer extremities.
And here it is with the sanding all done...
Below shows how much of the trailing edge strip required trimming.
The little foam blocks were installed below to obtain the correct shape prior to match drilling the shear clip.
Hmmm, more edges to roll into a perfect semi-circle...(eventually)
Looks nice with both elevators all together.
Now to pull them apart, take off all rough edges, debur, sand, etch and prime.
Just thought I'd go off on a short tangent a show my latest way viewing the instructions. Rather than have to walk over to take a look at the plans every time I was after clarification, I can now simply take the mouse with me and scroll to the section I need to inspect. This 55" LCD was cheaper than a PC monitor - awesome!!
Clecoeing the horns on prior to match drilling... (p09-17:Step 2)
Tadaaaa - left elevator ready to pull apart again.
These are the Trim Tab Horns (p09-12). I would've prepared the Trim Tab Push Rods at the same time, but they must appear in the next instalment.
